Books on display

Posted on Tue, 31 Jul 2007 by KiM

I adore this photo. Not only are the books organized by colour but by size too. Love the graphic effect.

Here are some more I really like. My favourite are wall-to-wall bookcases. But there are a couple of smart ideas below for books that maybe aren’t the greatest to look at. Such as the third photo. Place a REALLY nice chair in front of your books and no one will even notice them because they’ll be too busy admiring the chair. Or in the fourth photo – just turn the books around so the spines are facing backwards.

I came across this black and white room by in my many searches but was disappointed that the site was under construction. The good news is that it is now up and running. Although images are limited (he is a young gun of interior design after all) his portfolio does not disappoint. There is a young dandy about town, English gentleman’s rooms feel about his work. This isn’t foppery though. This is talent starting out. Still find that black and white room breathtaking.

Fernlund + Logan Architects

was established in New York in 1992 by Solveig Fernlund and Neil Logan. Their residential and commercial work has been published on numerous occasions, including in Dwell, Interior Design, The World of Interiors and the New York Times. I think I love their portfolio so much because their designs are simple which allows the furnishings to play a larger part in the design.

Playing hooky from blogging

I’m supposed to be drafting posts for this week but I’m spending my afternoon recovering my dining room chairs. All six of them. They’re part of a dining set made in Brisbane by Danish immigrant Hans Larsen who made furniture to Danish designs using Australian rainforest timbers during the 60s. These chairs are blackbean not teak. I love them so much but felt I needed a change from their black leather seats. So I recovered them with….. a table cloth. Don’t worry their original covers are still underneath. Only 5 more to go! Oh and a weeks worth of posts still to do. P.S The pots are West German floor vases, another collecting vice I have.
